Winter is a stunning time on Skye and the house looks across the Sound of Sleat towards the snow capped peaks of the Highlands. The structure survived the winter storms and since then has continue to fly up. The completion of the roof is being delayed as we await the steel posts (and structure) which will provide strength and support the huge portions of glazing looking out over the Sound.
Instead the blockwork has nearly reached completion – this provides a second strong and insulating skin and was part of the original design to provide the house a strong local vernacular while peeling a portion back to allow access to the wonder which is Skye – the view.
The timber composite windows are due for delivery in the next two weeks and will be installed as soon as the steel is in place. The roof has been cut and prepared and simply needs to go up – this is going to happen very quickly, meaning we can at last start on the inside. Below you can see one of the kitchen windows opening onto the stone ruin of an old black house. Bizarrely the planning department were more than happy for this to be demolished – we think it adds heaps of character and are keeping it but it is odd that the Highland Council don’t preserve more of the local heritage rather than obsessing over road gradients (rant over)!
lovely views cant wait to see the finished work.
You’re invited (once its finished) 🙂
